Q&A and Frequently Called Numbers

Frequently Called Numbers and FAQs

Merritt Downs is a no-solicitation community. There are three entrances into our neighborhood, and all have clearly visible signs that say, “No Soliciting.”

It is our understanding that according to county codes, companies and organizations can solicit if they have a valid, dated solicitation permit from the Metro.

If a solicitor comes to your door, first of all, you have no obligation to open it, and you should not if you don’t feel safe. No one has a right to invade your privacy. If you decide to speak with the solicitor, ask them to show you their dated Metro permit. Most will not have it and will try to answer your question by saying something like, “I have a permit,” “I spoke to Metro,” or “We have customers in the neighborhood,” which, of course, has no bearing on their right to be in our community.

⦁ Ask to see the Metro solicitation dated on the same day.
⦁ Ask them to show you their Metro solicitation permit dated for the day they show up at your door. If they don’t have one, you can safely and legally tell them, if you wish, that Merritt Downs is a no-solicitation community. They must immediately leave your property and the entire neighborhood as they are trespassing.

If they refuse or if they (in most cases) leave your house to go the next one, you can call Metro Police at (615) 826-8600 and let them know that the solicitors have been asked to leave and are trespassing.
